Ben O'Donoghue is ministering to the poor cooks of Logan with Jamie Oliver's mobile kitchen
It's 8m long, houses four cooktop island benches, six wall ovens and a full collection of Jamie Oliver cookbooks.
Yesterday the Naked Chef's first Australian mobile kitchen opened in Logan, ahead of an 11-week stint teaching locals how to cook basic healthy meals, meal planning, nutritional information and budgeting and shopping tips.
While Jamie Oliver couldn't make it along for his trailer's official opening, his Australian ambassador and mate, celebrity chef Ben O'Donoghue, filled in with all the pizzazz of the lisping man from England. Last year Oliver's first Australian Ministry of Food opened in Ipswich, with classes on food education and quick and healthy cooking. O'Donoghue said the mobile kitchen would take Ministry of Food lessons right into the heart of local communities.
"It doesn't matter where it is in Australia, the primary reason for this is (diet)-related illnesses, like diabetes," he said.
Up to 240 people will pass through the custom-made trailer in each town, with the Logan program, which starts on Thursday, booked out.
