This week's budget hits alcohol, cigarettes, but luckily spared the bacon
...Police arrest more Toolies than Schoolies in Coast crackdown
Fifty-three people were arrested last night as part of a Schoolies Week police crackdown - but it was not just the teenagers who were playing up. Only 26 of the people arrested at the Gold Coast celebrations were Schoolies. They were charged with 29 offences. The other 27 people arrested were not school leavers.
Meanwhile, 58 Schoolies and 23 non-Schoolies were issued with liquor infringement notices. A police spokesman said authorities were "pleased" with the behaviour of the school leavers, and the number of arrests over the weekend was similar to that seen in previous years.
Three of the Schoolies arrested were charged with minor drug offences after they were allegedly caught with the so-called party drug ecstasy. The rest were charged with alcohol and public nuisance offences. The non-Schoolies face 32 charges, mainly involving public nuisance and good order offences.
